Our Story

In 2014 we opened our doors as Base Camp Anchorage Hostel with a focus on creating a welcoming community atmosphere for travelers visiting Alaska.  Our passion for the outdoors gives us experience in hiking, bicycling, paragliding and packrafting.  We enjoy sharing the beauty of Alaska with travelers with advice on favorite hikes and places to explore.  Whether you are planning a multi-day backpacking trip or sightseeing for orca whales and glaciers, we can help you save time and money while having unique and memorable experiences.      

Nourishing community also means giving back to our local community.  Every year we donate a percentage of our revenues to local nonprofit organizations.  Environmental sustainability and decreasing our carbon footprint and is important for us.  Our hostel has invested in solar panels, cork flooring, triple pain windows, and eco friendly appliances.  Every summer we also invite local musicians and artists to share their music and art at our hostel.  Check out our “Travelers Blog” to see videos of local musicians and see what else we have been up to.  

It’s important to recognize and honor this region’s deep ancestral roots.  Anchorage lies within the traditional and current homelands of the Eklutna Dena’ina people.   They have been the caretakers of the land, animals, plants, and water for thousands of years.
